can ya bear it?

a few dreams...

I think Hilary Swank was in my dream last night. All I remember was that she was upset about something. *shrug* Don't remember what. But this puts her name on the list of celebrities who have been in my dreams lately!

I also had a dream that I was driving with someone I knew down a street in my neighbourhood. It was summer, the lawns were green, and she was bragging about her new Jeep Liberty that we were driving along in. At one point I looked out the window and saw a giant polar bear chained to a front lawn, and he looked *most* unhappy. He growled and snapped as we drove by and I wondered who the hell would have a polar bear for a pet. (note to self: do not watch the tv show "Lost" just before bed. the show features a polar bear terrorizing people stranded on a tropical island)

Last night I had two dreams I can remember. In the first one I was hurrying to a restaurant to meet my friends for a birthday dinner/celebration. I was carrying a plastic bag with the gifts inside, including two bottles of beer clanking together as I walked. As I hurried into the restaurant I approached the hostess at her little podium and asked where my table was (under reservation). It was at this point that she informed me that if I was going to give the person her birthday present in the restaurant I could, but it would cost me $25 for the privilege AND the person would not be able to take it home tonight, it would be courriered to her the next day. That is, if I chose to give her the present here. I looked at the hostess like she was out of her mind, gave a little laugh, and said that I suppose then I *wouldn't* be doing that in light of this absurd rule. I then asked incredulously who in their right mind would? She lead me into the restaurant to look for my friends but said that she didn't think they were here yet. I assured her that they were, as I was late and they would most certainly have arrived already. She argued that no, they were not here, and I argued on that yes, they had to be. As she continued to insist they weren't I saw one of my friends waving me over so I left her standing there and went to the table. I gave my friend her present but told her not to open it. I explained the crazy rule to her and we agreed to just leave the present until later.
(why did I have this dream? I think it's because a new law was put into effect in local Toronto (indeed, Ontario as a whole) restaurants in which you may bring your own bottle of wine to a restaurant rather than ordering from the restaurant themselves. Sounds good, but, you have to pay a $25 fee to have the bottle properly re-corked in order to make it legal for you to drive with the leftover bottle in your car; in Canada you can't drink with an 'open' bottle of liquor in your car)

In another dream from last night I was driving along a country road, on my way to... somewhere. I can't recall the destination but at one point it became clear that I was getting lost the farther I drove on. The road turned from asphalt to gravel and was becoming more bumpy and narrow. The road I was on was lined by forest on both sides, and as I drove on I found myself absolutely in awe of the beautiful of the trees. The greens were so mesmerizing it was nearly dizzying and I just stared at it all as I continued driving, drinking up the amazing view. Finally I came to a point in the road that was at the top of a hill. I stopped at the top because I found myself overlooking this gorgeous area (a valley) unlike the forest area I had just driven through. It was an area of big open fields with lush green grass and plants growing. Here and there were a few huge old trees and the occasional farmhouse off in the distance. I got out of the car to behold this giant tree in the distance, as it was so unlike anything I had ever seen (it was almost exactly like this, only BIGGER). I grabbed my camera and was preparing to take a picture when suddenly I was startled by a barking dog. I looked over to see a big white dog with a spiked collar around his neck, barking feverishly at my presence. I took a few steps back just as the owner had appeared out of nowhere, and asked me what I was doing. I apologized if I had been trespassing, and that all I wished to do was take a picture. I said that I had never seen anything like this lush valley before and I wanted to capture it's beauty. He now stood there, stroking his dog who was at his side, and laughed remarking that I must be from the city. I said that I was, yes, but that I had grown up in southern Ontario, in farm areas such as this. However, where I had grown up was nothing like this in terms of breathtaking beauty. I glanced down at his dog and remarked that in fact.... I had a dog then that looked *just* like his dog... a Great Pyrenees! Wow.. I thought.. weird coincidence.

After speaking with him briefly and noting his accent (was it Australian?) I got back in my car and turned around to head back from where I came. As I drove on I began kicking myself in the ass for not paying closer attention to the interaction. In the Celestine Prophecy it is said that you run into people for a reason and that you should pay attention to this chance meetings to determine what message/lesson you were to have gleaned from it. So I was frustrated that I had not been aware enough to focus during our talk. Just then my cellphone buzzed with a text message. It was from this man saying that he liked my blog very much and looked forward to seeing my pictures. I was happy he contacted me, but suddenly concerned.... how did he get my cellphone number? I hadn't given it to him....
